About

10t Capacity A-Frame LARS: Heavy-Duty Solution for Marine Handling Operations

Marine environments are subject to rapid changes. Wave action, wind loads, vessel motion, and temperature fluctuations present severe operational challenges. For efficient and safe handling operations onboard research vessels, the 10t capacity A-frame LARS provides a purpose-built solution engineered to withstand open-sea conditions while maintaining high performance.

Operational Challenges for Standard Handling Equipment

Offshore operations demand specialized engineering beyond standard industrial designs. Vessel roll up to 10°, trim up to 2°, continuous wind exposure, sea water splashing, and an operating temperature range from –40°C to +40°C require enhanced structural integrity and reliability. Standard lifting gear lacks the design margins for these dynamic loads, leading to premature failure or operational downtime.

Furthermore, rapid deployment is critical. The A-frame must transition to the operational position in less than one minute to respond effectively to changing sea states and vessel maneuvers.

Engineering Solution for Severe Environments

The A-frame LARS by Izhora Hydrosystems LLC features a welded steel box-girder structure forming a rigid portal frame. The design ensures high resistance to vessel motion, shipboard vibration, and corrosion from sea water.

The assembly includes a hydraulic system with cylinders and sensors to adjust and lock the outreach in the required positions. The hydraulic power unit (HPU) is housed inside a detachable 10-foot container equipped with oil heating and cooling systems, ensuring reliable start-up and operation in extreme Arctic and tropical temperatures.

Corrosion Protection and Materials

Corrosion protection is a critical requirement for marine equipment. The A-frame is treated with a high-durability three-layer coating system resistant to sea water and atmospheric exposure. The hydraulic cylinder piston rods feature a specialized anti-corrosion plating to significantly extend operational life.

All components and materials comply with international quality and safety standards, verified by corresponding certificates and test reports.

Operational Efficiency

The A-frame ensures safe launch and recovery operations from the vessel deck in conditions up to sea state 3, withstandining severe marine design loads. The system enables efficient geotechnical and geophysical surveys while maintaining high operational safety and reliability.

The scope of supply is comprehensive, including all main structural assemblies, spare parts, safety systems, and documentation to streamline installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

Integration into Vessel Workflows

The A-frame LARS optimizes the sequence of marine operations, reducing equipment deck preparation time and improving crew coordination. The design provides operational flexibility for load handling and allows seamless integration with existing connected equipment, increasing the overall efficiency of geotechnical and research missions.
