1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The core sampler manipulator operates reliably under the following sea state conditions:

  • Ambient air temperature: -30°C to +35°C
  • Water temperature: -2°C to +32°C
  • Relative humidity: 98% at +35°C
  • Shipboard vibration
  • Intermittent sea water splashing of components
  • Continuous vessel heel: up to 5° to either side
  • Continuous vessel trim: up to 2° by bow or stern

The manipulator remains functional after historical exposure to the following non-operating conditions:

The portable control console features an emergency STOP button and status indication, enabling immediate operator response when required. The control system minimizes human-factor risks and reduces operational errors.

Vessel Infrastructure Integration

The equipment is systematically engineered for seamless integration into shipboard hydraulic and electrical networks. The scope of supply includes all critical components, such as the control cabinet and the electrical interconnecting cable set.

The robust design enables the manipulator to withstand vibration, vessel motion, and sea water exposure. The hydraulic cylinders are equipped with systems that ensure smooth travel even under overtaking loads, along with positive locking in intermediate positions.

4. Additional Requirements

  • The unit shall be a deck-mounted, tilting hydraulic core sampler manipulator designed for piston, gravity, and other types of geological percussion core barrels, featuring a modular multi-section cradle frame.
  • The frame shall consist of sections approximately 5.5 meters long each and shall enable manipulator operation with core barrels ranging from 5 to 32 meters in length.
  • The frame shall be stored separately from the manipulator and assembled during the voyage, immediately prior to deployment.
  • The frame mounted on the manipulator shall be positioned on supports temporarily installed on the deck. Each support shall be secured to M24 threaded deck sockets welded flush with the deck plating. The distance between the holes along the vessel’s Y-axis shall be 600 mm.
  • The frame positioned on the supports shall provide the crew with unobstructed access directly from the vessel deck to the core barrel resting inside the frame.
  • The climate version of the manipulator and the portable control console shall comply with the OMP category (Offshore Marine, prolonged exposure) according to GOST 15150-69.
  • Control operations shall be executed from the portable control console and from the console located inside the research operations room.
  • Manipulator control elements shall feature Russian text and/or symbols that clearly specify their function.
  • The portable control console shall feature a red emergency STOP button in the control circuits to disconnect the main power circuits of the hydraulic power unit electric drive, alongside “Operation” and “Common Fault” indicator lights.
  • The manipulator shall be supplied with a foundation (pedestal) to be welded to the deck. The foundation configuration shall be finalized during the detailed design stage.
  • Power supply for the electrical equipment shall be provided via a single feeder from a 230 V, single-phase, 50 Hz AC network.
  • Electrical equipment and all parts liable to become live shall be securely grounded.
  • Electrical equipment enclosures shall be marked with a standard electrical hazard symbol.
  • Electrical equipment shall be marked in accordance with GOST IEC 61293-2016.
  • The manipulator design shall ensure compliance with safety requirements during installation, operation, maintenance, and repair according to the occupational safety standards system.
  • The manipulator hydraulic cylinders shall be equipped with either pilot-operated check valves with proportional pilot control or leak-free counterbalance valves to ensure smooth operation under overtaking loads, along with positive locking in intermediate positions and check valves.
  • The manipulator shall be supplied fully coated. The coating system thickness shall be at least 250-300 µm. The topcoat colors are subject to the Customer’s approval. The service life of the coating system shall be a minimum of 5 years.
  • The manipulator drive power is supplied from the shipboard hydraulic system with a pressure of 250 bar and a rated flow of not more than 160 l/min.
  • Imported equipment shall comply with the TR CU (Technical Regulations of the Customs Union) requirements.
  • All electrical equipment shall have an IP56 protection class.
  • All materials shall be resistant to the operating temperature conditions (-30°C to +35°C).
  • Coating: the coating system and color shall be agreed upon with the Customer.
  • The hydraulic system working fluid is subject to agreement with the Customer.
  • The fluid cleanliness class shall be at least class 12 according to GOST 17216-71.
