1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The foremast operates reliably under marine conditions with:

2. Purpose

The foremast is designed to carry navigation lights, as well as for the outboard deployment of an ice thickness gauge (GPR) and air intake pipes for aerosol research.

4. Additional Requirements

4.1 General Technical Requirements for Foremast Supply

  • Locking of the foremast in the vertical position.
  • Locking of the foremast in the horizontal position (stowed forward).
  • Support structures with locking units (forward, aft) are included in the scope of supply.
  • The foremast drive is located inside the “Foremast Control Room”.
  • A rungs ladder is provided for servicing equipment installed on the foremast.
  • Safety cage availability.
  • Main control station installed in the compartment below the foremast.
  • Remote control station installed on the foremast stanchion.
  • Brackets for lights and the thickness gauge, as well as light platforms, are integrated into the mast structure. Dimensions of platforms and brackets shall be finalized with the Shipyard during the detailed design stage.
  • Electric motor overload protection.
  • All panels are fitted with locking devices.
  • Electric motor with anti-condensation heating.
  • Safety markings are installed on the electrical equipment:
    • All panels with voltages exceeding 42 V shall be fitted with warning safety signs in accordance with OST 31.0031-96:
    • Sign 2.4 “Caution! Electrical Hazard” — on the external side of panel doors.
    • Sign 3.2 “Wear Protective Gloves” — inside the panels.
  • A voltage designation label in accordance with OST 5R.6083-98 is installed on the external side of panel doors with voltages exceeding 42 V.
  • The folding section of the foremast, electrical equipment, and all parts that may become energized are securely earthed.
  • Electrical equipment enclosures are marked with an electrical hazard symbol.
  • Measures for static electricity protection are provided in accordance with the “Rules for Protection against Static Electricity on Sea-Going Vessels” (Minstry of Merchant Marine, 1973) and OST 5.6109.
  • All electrical equipment panels are equipped with cable glands, earthing bolts, and door hooks for the open position.
  • Electric motors feature Class F insulation.
  • All electrical equipment is of approved type and intended for marine application.
  • All cables are manufactured from flame-retardant materials.
  • All cables for communication, signaling, and remote control feature twisted pairs and shielding.
  • All electrical equipment is provided with earthing bolts and cable glands; fasteners and cable lugs are included for cable connection.
  • Welding pipe hangers for cable routing to the foremast structure is permitted without voiding the foremast warranty.
  • Interface language: Russian.

4.2 Special Requirements

  • Each item within the scope of supply, including components and/or materials, shall be codified/marked and listed as separate line items in packing lists and installation instructions.
  • All equipment and components shall be brand new and in current production at the time of supply.
  • Instruction plates on the equipment shall have inscriptions in the Russian language, unless otherwise required by international conventions.
  • All data plates shall be manufactured from stainless steel.
  • All primary and equipment delivered complete with it shall be painted and requires no additional coating application.
  • The coating color of the equipment (accounting for Customer requirements regarding compartment color, external painting scheme, and color of dedicated special equipment) is subject to approval by the Designer according to the RAL color chart.
  • External surfaces of the equipment shall feature a coating system ensuring standard operation in a C5-M very high corrosivity zone (marine environment) in accordance with ISO 12944-2 classification, consisting of 1 primer coat and 3 enamel coats.
  • All orifices on the equipment shall be fitted with standard shipping plugs.
  • A list of fast-wearing (consumable) parts not covered by the Shipbuilder’s warranty obligations shall be submitted, indicating their quantities and scheduled replacement intervals.
  • For control stations installed on the open deck area adjacent to the foremast, a protective enclosure with an anti-icing function shall be provided.
  • Cable trays for cable routing, as well as interconnecting cables for equipment connection, are provided on the foremast structure.
