2. Purpose

A-frame davit: designed for launching and recovering a rescue boat with its crew, as well as launching and recovering a 25-person lifesaving appliance.

4. Additional Requirements

A-Frame Davit

  • The davit consists of an A-frame arm that pivots outboard, launches and recovers the rescue boat, and stows back into the stowed position via hydraulic drive.
  • The drive system comprises a hydraulic power unit (HPU) equipped with an electric pump and a hand pump, arm pivoting hydraulic cylinders, a launch/recovery hydraulic winch motor, a hydraulic accumulator, and a control station.
  • Under emergency conditions, outboard pivoting of the arm can be performed using the hydraulic accumulator or the hand pump.
  • Boat launching is executed by gravity. The winch is equipped with a centrifugal speed limiter and a manual brake.
  • The A-frame davit features an anti-pendulum / anti-slamming device protecting the arm, wire rope, and boat hull during braking, hoisting, and lowering.
  • A tension compensation unit is integrated to maintain constant tension on the davit fall during vessel motion.
  • The A-frame davit remains fully operational under simultaneous heel up to 20° and trim up to 10° in any combination.
  • Control methods: from a remote control panel (pivoting/stowing, launch/recovery); wireless control from inside the boat (for pivoting and launching).
  • Both the main drive and emergency manual drive ensure recovery and stowing of the boat to its parked position with full complement.
  • The A-frame davit is equipped with a receptacle for connecting flexible cables for rescue boat battery charging and space heating.
  • The system provides a common alarm signal to the vessel’s integrated automation system (IAS), including boat charger and heater failure indications.
  • Coating system dry film thickness (DFT): min. 250–300 µm (min. 3 layers).
  • Topcoat color of the equipment: subject to customer approval.
  • Preservation coatings ensure an indoor shelf life of 12–18 months under specified storage conditions.

Rescue Boat

  • The hull is constructed from marine-grade aluminum-magnesium alloy (AlMg) and features a double bottom filled with polyurethane foam, ensuring positive buoyancy even with hull damage below the waterline.
  • The vessel features a self-bailing deck with a non-slip surface.
  • A D-shaped rubberized fender protector cushions the hull from damage and absorbs impact energy.
  • Two towing bitts are installed at the stern, and a towing hook is located at the bow.
  • The boat is equipped with a single-point lifting arrangement for launch and recovery.
  • A 60 hp outboard gasoline engine features remote control and a propeller guard.
  • The engine rating is sufficient to tow six 25-person liferafts (type PSN-25MK) at a speed of 2 knots.
