1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The LARS for ROV is designed to operate under climate category OM1 according to GOST 15150-69, within an ambient air temperature range of -30 °C to +40 °C and an outdoor relative humidity of 98% at +35 °C.

The LARS storage and transportation climate conditions comply with category Zh1 according to GOST 15150-69, within an ambient air temperature range of -40 °C to +50 °C.

The LARS for ROV maintains full operational performance under the following conditions:

  • Continuous heel and trim: minimum 5°
  • Simultaneous vessel motion:
    • Vertical amplitude: ±1.1 m (10 s period)
    • Roll amplitude: ±7° (10 s period)
    • Pitch amplitude: ±3° (8 s period)
  • Wind speed: minimum 10 m/s
  • Mechanical environmental exposure: group M3 according to GOST 30631-99

The LARS for ROV maintains survival and structural integrity after exposure to extreme environmental conditions:

  • Heel and trim: up to 30°
  • Vessel motion:
    • Vertical amplitude: ±5.0 m (15 s period)
    • Roll amplitude: ±30° (15 s period)
    • Pitch amplitude: ±15° (10 s period)
  • Wind speed: minimum 35 m/s
  • Mechanical environmental exposure: groups M25 and M32 according to GOST 30631-99
  • Heavy icing

LARS for ROV deck arrangement layout:

  • Longitudinal: at the stern edge, at a horizontal distance of 25 m from the vessel center of gravity to the LARS aftmost point
  • Transverse: at the shipside, at a horizontal distance of 2 m from the vessel center of gravity to the LARS aftmost point

2. Purpose

The LARS for ROV is intended for the launch and recovery of a work-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and other subsea equipment from the vessel deck.

About

What is a LARS for ROV?

A Launch and Recovery System (LARS) for a Work-Class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) is specialized equipment designed for the safe launch and recovery of subsea vehicles from a vessel deck. It provides precise and stable deployment control, which is critical during operations in harsh marine environments.

Purpose of a LARS for ROV

Modern subsea research and offshore operations require reliable deployment and handling systems. A LARS for ROV enables operations with minimal risk to equipment and personnel, ensuring complete control during the launch and recovery of various subsea assets.

Key Advantages

The utilization of a LARS for ROV streamlines subsea operations, enhances safety, and increases the efficiency of deep-water research and engineering tasks. These systems are widely used in scientific, exploratory, and industrial offshore projects.
