Marine Folding Boom Crane, 60t capacity (Technical supply specification)

1. General Data (Operating Conditions)

The folding boom crane is designed for reliable marine operation under the following conditions:

  • Design ambient air temperature: +45°C with 80% humidity in summer; down to –45°C with wind speeds up to 25 m/s and 85% humidity in winter.
  • Water temperature: from +32°C to –2°C respectively.
  • Shipboard vibration.
  • Intermittent sea water splashing of components.
  • Permanent heel (port/starboard): up to 5°.
  • Permanent trim (bow/stern): up to 2°.

2. Purpose

The equipment is designed for installation on various vessel types to perform lifting operations, including handling of general cargo, ship stores, and provisions. Operation is permitted at static vessel heel angles up to 5° port or starboard and trim up to 2° bow or stern at minimum vessel draft. Personnel lifting capability supports the following operations:

  • Cargo handling: up to 15 t SWL at 38 m outreach.
  • Cargo handling: up to 45 t SWL at 14 m outreach.
  • Cargo handling: up to 60 t SWL at 11 m outreach.
  • Transfer of external rescue equipment weighing up to 5 t to a distressed object.
  • Container handling operations.
  • Recovery of survivors from the water surface using a rescue net.
  • Subsea cargo recovery to the deck, including underwater equipment (without supporting subsea operations).
  • Personnel lifting operations.

About

Evolution of Marine Lifting Gear

Modern vessels impose increasingly complex requirements on deck equipment, driving the development of specialized lifting solutions. The folding boom crane has emerged as one such solution, combining a compact footprint with enhanced functionality for operations in confined spaces.

Folding Boom Operating Principle

The folding boom features an articulated design that allows the crane to alter its configuration during operations. This architecture enables the folding boom crane to adapt to diverse tasks, ensuring precise cargo positioning without the need to relocate the equipment.

Versatility in Cargo Handling

The utilization of a folding boom extends cargo handling capabilities on board the vessel. This equipment is utilized for handling ship stores, moving containerized units, and performing auxiliary operations where precision and controlled movement are critical.

Efficient Deck Space Utilization

One of the key advantages of the folding boom crane is its ability to minimize footprint when stowed. This is particularly critical for vessels with high-density deck layouts, where every equipment component must be integrated efficiently and without interference with other systems.

Engineering Approach to Manufacturing

Izhora Hydrosystems LLC manufactures folding boom cranes, developing these solutions to address the practical challenges of shipbuilding and fleet operation. The company’s engineering approach focuses on creating equipment that integrates seamlessly into the vessel design and meets specific customer requirements, avoiding redundant or over-engineered solutions.

Significance for Modern Vessel Designs

As marine technology advances, the folding boom crane is increasingly considered a standard component of marine lifting equipment. Its design concept reflects the general trend toward multi-functionality and adaptability required in modern vessel designs.
