Marine hydraulic hatch cover, clear opening 16x10m (Technical supply specification)

1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The marine hydraulic hatch cover operates reliably under marine environmental conditions including:

  • Design ambient air temperature: +45°C at 80% relative humidity (summer); -40°C at wind speeds up to 25 m/s and 85% relative humidity (winter).
  • Seawater temperature: from -2°C to +32°C.
  • Shipboard vibration.
  • Periodic seawater splashing of components.

Operating conditions during hatch cover operation:

  • Continuous vessel heel (either port or starboard): up to 20°.
  • Continuous vessel trim (bow or stern): up to 10°.
  • Wind pressure: max. 400 Pa.
  • Shipboard vibration.

Operating conditions in stowed position:

  • Ambient air temperature: from -40°C to +45°C.
  • Vessel heel (either port or starboard): up to 15°.
  • Vessel trim (bow or stern): up to 5°.
  • Wind pressure: max. 2000 Pa.
  • Shipboard vibration.

2. Purpose

The equipment is designed to enclose the deep-sea submersible launch boathouses. The seal tightness prevents flooding, water ingress from splashing, dust, and external elements into the hangar, including at static vessel heel angles up to 20° port or starboard and trim up to 10° bow or stern at minimum vessel draft.

About

Marine Hangar Protection: The Role of Hydraulic Hatch Covers

Solutions for Vulnerable Openings

Large structural openings in the decks of specialized vessels, such as hangars for submersibles, are critical structural components. Their reliable closure is a key task that determines the safety of expensive internal equipment and overall vessel seaworthiness. A marine hydraulic hatch cover serves as the primary technical solution for these applications.

Hydraulic Power for Reliability

This equipment comprises a heavy-duty multi-panel assembly actuated by a hydraulic system. Hydraulic power delivers the required force for tight panel-to-deck sealing and secure perimeter sealing. This ensures the integrity of the opening against significant loads from wind, waves, and hull deformations.

System Components

A complete system scope of supply comprises the hatch cover panels, hydraulic cylinders, a hydraulic power unit (HPU), control cabinets, and an instrument array of sensors and alarms. Actuation can be performed via either a central control station or local control panels. Modern configurations feature safety interlocks and alarms to eliminate operator error and enhance operational safety.

Key Equipment Requirements

These systems are engineered for operation in extreme marine environments. They must maintain watertight integrity under vessel heel and trim conditions, and withstand temperature fluctuations, shipboard vibration, and periodic seawater splashing. Stringent requirements are applied to structural materials, sealing elements, and coating systems.

Domestic Provider of Solutions

Developing a reliable hatch cover system requires deep expertise in shipbuilding and mechanical engineering. In Russia, these challenges are successfully met by Izhora Hydrosystems LLC, which designs, manufactures, and supplies this equipment in strict compliance with marine classification society standards.

Reliability as the Core Priority

Ultimately, equipment effectiveness is evaluated by its trouble-free operation under actual service conditions. A high-quality marine hydraulic hatch cover delivers long-term protection for the hangar space, ensuring safe marine operations and protecting internal equipment from environmental impacts.
