1. General (Operating Conditions)

The marine crane ensures reliable operation under the following design environmental conditions:

Vessel vibration: Hull-borne vibration resistant

Design ambient air temperature (Summer): +35 °C @ 80% RH

Design ambient air temperature (Winter): -45 °C @ wind speed up to 25 m/s, 85% RH

Water temperature range: -2 °C to +25 °C

Permanent list: up to 10°

Permanent trim: up to 2°

Wind pressure: max. 400 Pa

2. Purpose

The equipment is designed for onboard vessel installation to perform the following operations:

  • Escorting and turning maneuvers of high-tonnage vessels.
  • Delivery, boarding, and recovery of pilots.
  • Deep-sea towing of vessels, floating objects, and structures in open water and ice conditions.
  • Oil Spill Response (OSR) operations for oil products with a flashpoint > 60 °C (vessel operating outside the localized oil slick area, utilizing a skimmer and a submersible pump powered by the vessel’s electrical grid).
  • Outboard firefighting (Fi-Fi) operations on distressed vessels.
  • Search and Rescue (SAR) operations for up to 20 survivors, including under static vessel list up to 5° (PS/SB) and trim up to 2° (bow/stern) at minimum vessel draft.

Personnel Lifting Mode capabilities:

  • Cargo handling up to 1.5 t @ 5.5 m outreach.
  • Transfer of portable rescue equipment to a distressed asset.
  • Recovery of survivors from the water surface via a rescue net.
  • Subsea lifting and recovery of cargo/underwater equipment onboard (excluding subsea intervention control).
  • Personnel lifting operations using dedicated structures.

About

Application of Modern Marine Knuckle Boom Cranes

The marine knuckle boom crane has become a key element of deck equipment, combining the functions of lifting, escorting, and safe cargo handling across various types of marine vessels. This equipment is utilized when precise positioning, reliable operation in confined spaces, and prompt execution of personnel and cargo handling operations over the water surface are required.

Role of Knuckle Boom Cranes in Marine Safety

Modern marine knuckle boom cranes support a wide range of search and rescue (SAR) and emergency response operations. The equipment is deployed for recovering survivors from the water, transferring assets to distressed vessels, and supporting marine pollution mitigation efforts. The flexibility of the articulated boom system minimizes risks to the crew and enhances the efficiency of rescue units.

Application of Knuckle Boom Cranes for Floating Object Operations

A key application includes interaction with various vessel types, ranging from escorting high-tonnage vessels in ports to maneuvering floating structures. The marine knuckle boom crane ensures precise turning, handling, and transferring of equipment, which is critical when interacting with objects in continuous motion.

Engineering Solutions Driving Functionality

The efficiency of these systems relies on structural design features that combine maneuverability, stability, and the capability to handle equipment in demanding offshore environments. The boom configuration, control system, and overall layout are designed to enable precise operator control with minimal latency, significantly increasing crew operational efficiency.

Production Competencies and Corporate Capability

The design and manufacturing of this equipment require high engineering standards and deep insight into the maritime sector. Izhora Hydrosystems LLC develops this equipment based on actual fleet operational requirements, combining field experience with modern deck machinery manufacturing standards. This ensures system reliability and seamless integration across various vessel types.
