About

Deck Cargo Handling Systems

Cargo handling equipment is critical for daily vessel operations. Deck cranes transfer equipment, service onboard machinery, and perform auxiliary operations where precise control and compact dimensions are vital. Within this category, the marine davit crane is a distinct solution that combines standard crane functionality with manipulator precision.

Marine Davit Crane Design Concept

The marine davit crane is designed specifically for limited deck space and operations near superstructures and equipment. The layout featuring a slewing column and boom system enables multi-planar operations without cargo repositioning. This architecture simplifies operator control and expands the technical capabilities of the equipment.

Cargo Handling Precision and Control

A key advantage of marine davit cranes is high positioning accuracy. The operator can smoothly control crane movements while combining multiple operations simultaneously, which is critical when handling out-of-gauge or sensitive cargo. This makes the marine davit crane an efficient tool for complex deck tasks.

Application Across Various Vessel Types

Marine davit cranes are utilized on transport, auxiliary, rescue, and specialized vessels. They are deployed for equipment loading, servicing onboard systems, launching and recovering small craft, and performing specialized technical operations. The versatile design allows the equipment to be adapted to specific vessel requirements.

Advanced Control Systems

The development of control systems has significantly expanded deck crane capabilities. Modern marine davit cranes can be operated via a local control station or wireless control, which improves safety and operational convenience. Automation of specific operations minimizes human error and simplifies repetitive tasks.

4. Additional Requirements

  • All materials are resistant to operating temperatures from −35 °C to +32 °C.
  • Protection rating for the crane-mounted control panel is IP67. Protection rating for the auxiliary remote control panel is minimum IP57. Both panels feature an anti-vandal design.
  • Power circuits of the pumping units (in case of high power rating) are equipped with soft starters to limit inrush currents.
  • The marine davit crane is equipped with a hydraulic oil heater featuring a thermostatically controlled heating element in the oil tank, an LED floodlight mounted on the boom side panel, and a remote control unit.
  • Safety devices: The crane is equipped with a 3-wrap limit switch on the winch drum.
  • Control: The crane and winch are operated locally from the operator platform and via wireless control for the following movements:
    • Slewing
    • Luffing up / down
    • Boom folding
    • Boom unfolding
    • Winch operation
  • The marine davit crane is equipped with a hydraulic fluid heater featuring a thermostatic heating element installed inside the oil tank, an LED floodlight mounted at the boom tip, and a remote control unit.
  • An auxiliary “on/off” push-button station for the cargo crane is installed on the main deck.
  • The crane hydraulic system is equipped with connections for a portable oil flushing and filtration unit.
  • Protection devices: The crane is equipped with the following protection devices:
    • Winch 3-wrap limit switch
    • Hoist limit switch
  • The crane features a local control station mounted on the operator platform on the slewing column, and an auxiliary remote wireless control unit with cable connection capability in case of battery discharge. Cable length is 12 m.
  • The crane control system ensures stepless speed regulation for all crane movements from 0 to maximum, as well as simultaneous operation of movements.
  • Capability for maximum speed reduction and limitation is provided.
  • The crane control system supports the following programmable automatic functions:
    • Single-button control for deployment from stowed to operational position and vice versa, accounting for adjacent deck equipment, hull structures, and superstructures.
    • Single-button control for positioning the crane to launch a rescue boat, workboat, or motorboat.
    • Working zone limitations across various positions of the main boom, outer boom, and telescopic sections during cargo handling to prevent accidental collisions with adjacent deck equipment, hull structures, and superstructures.
  • An audible warning alarm/siren is provided.
  • A floodlight is provided on the crane boom.
  • Dedicated attachment points (pad eyes) with an SWL of approximately 0.4 t are integrated into the telescopic sections for securing specialized rigging tools. The number of pad eyes corresponds to the number of telescopic extensions.
