Marine Knuckle Boom Crane, max. capacity 16t (Technical supply specification)

1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The marine knuckle boom crane operates reliably under marine conditions subject to:

  • Design ambient air temperatures of +35 °C in summer and −50 °C in winter.
  • Water temperatures from +32 °C to −2 °C respectively.
  • Shipboard vibration.
  • Intermittent seawater splashing of components.
  • Static heel angles up to and including 5° port/starboard.
  • Trim angles up to and including 2° bow/stern.

2. Purpose

The marine knuckle boom crane is designed for:

  • Installation on various vessel types to perform lifting operations on open deck areas, fast ice, and piers.
  • Transferring a cable bundle to a vessel in distress.
  • Supporting maintenance operations for propeller blade replacement.
  • Recovering and deploying an emergency shipboard helicopter over the side.

All operations remain functional at static heel angles up to 5° port or starboard and trim angles up to 2° bow or stern at the minimum vessel draft.

About

Marine Knuckle Boom Cranes: Modern Solutions for Maritime Vessels

Marine knuckle boom cranes are an essential component of modern vessel equipment. They ensure efficient lifting operations on open decks, piers, and fast ice, enabling execution under challenging marine conditions. Izhora Hydrosystems LLC manufactures these cranes, combining robust structural reliability with optimized control ergonomics.

Reliability in Extreme Environments

Marine knuckle boom cranes are engineered to withstand severe marine environments, including extreme temperatures, shipboard vibration, seawater splashing, as well as specified heel and trim angles. This resilience allows the marine knuckle boom crane to operate effectively even in adverse weather conditions, maintaining high precision and operational safety.

Versatility of Application

Shipboard knuckle boom cranes are utilized for a wide range of tasks, from lifting and handling cargo on deck to supporting maintenance operations, transferring cable bundles to vessels in distress, and deploying emergency helicopters over the side. Due to advanced control systems, the operator can seamlessly combine crane movements, ensuring smooth and precise operations.

Ergonomics and Controls

Control cabins are fully equipped to ensure operator comfort, featuring acoustic and thermal insulation, adjustable seats, window heating, lighting, and ventilation. Control options include both cabin-mounted consoles and portable remote control units, allowing adaptability to specific operational requirements onboard. Cabin ergonomics and optimized machinery layout provide maximum visibility of the working area and ensure safe operations.

Technological Features and Dependability

The marine knuckle boom crane is equipped with advanced hydraulic and electrical systems. The control systems provide stepless speed regulation for all crane movements, while automatic brakes and rated capacity limiters ensure operational safety. The crane design permits modular disassembly, maintenance of individual assemblies, and component replacement without time constraints.

Standards and Compliance

Izhora Hydrosystems LLC manufactures cranes in strict compliance with marine classification society rules and regulatory requirements. All electrical equipment features IP56 protection, ensuring reliability in open deck marine environments. The cranes are supplied with the required operational documentation, RMRS (Russian Maritime Register of Shipping) certificates, and manufacturing conformance certificates, guaranteeing full compliance with national regulatory requirements.
