1. General Information (Operating Conditions)

The scrap conveyor operates reliably in marine environments under the following operating conditions:

– Ambient air temperature: –10 °C to +40 °C.


2. Purpose

The scrap conveyor is designed to feed scrap to the guide rails of the scrap conveyor unloading machine (scrap stacker).

The conveyor and the scrap stacker form an integrated system sharing a common control system. Sensors are installed on the conveyor structures to provide feedback to the scrap stacker.

3.1.5. Certification

4. Additional Requirements

  • All electrical equipment has an IP44 enclosure class.
  • All applied materials are resistant to operating temperatures from –10 °C to +40 °C.

4.2. Design and Operating Principle

The scrap conveyor feeds scrap pieces to the catchers of the scrap unloading machine (scrap stacker), which places them onto a pallet positioned on the stacker turntable.

The conveyor feeds scrap pieces to the scrap stacker catchers individually. Once the maximum permissible number of scrap pieces for a single unloading cycle accumulates on the stacker catchers, the conveyor stops. The unloading machine manipulator lowers the accumulated batch of scrap onto the pallet located on the unloading machine turntable.

The stacker manipulator then ascends to its initial position to receive scrap, and the conveyor drive starts, feeding scrap pieces to the unloading machine catchers.

The number of scrap pieces fed to the unloading machine manipulator catchers during a single cycle is counted by optical sensors installed on the conveyor structures. The maximum number of scrap pieces allowed for delivery to the scrap stacker catchers per cycle is software-defined.

4.3. Operating Modes and System Configuration

4.3.1. System Configuration

The system comprises the scrap feeding conveyor, the scrap unloading machine (scrap stacker), and a common system for integrated control of both the conveyor and the scrap stacker.

4.3.2. Description of Operating Modes

The system features three control modes: automatic, semi-automatic, and manual.

Mode selection is executed via a “Manual / Semi-Automatic / Automatic” selector switch. The active mode is displayed in the upper-left corner of the operator panel.

4.3.3. Automatic Mode

In automatic mode, the system remains in standby until the operator presses the “START” button. Upon activation, the unloading cycle is executed according to the following sequence:

– Activation of the scrap conveyor drive shaft motor;

– Counting of scrap pieces entering the guide catchers;

– Deactivation of the scrap conveyor drive shaft motor upon reaching the preset count;

– Lowering of the pivoting frame;

– Raising of the lift-and-turn table;

– Extension of the retractable platform with subsequent scrap discharge;

– Lowering of the lift table;

– Rotation of the lift-and-turn table and retraction of the platform (if the “No Rotation” setting is selected, only platform retraction is executed);

– Raising of the frame.

Upon cycle completion, the system returns to standby for the next cycle.

Pressing the “PAUSE / STOP” button resets the cycle and stops all mechanism movements. To resume operations, the layer unloading sequence must be completed in manual mode.

Recommended scrap stacking pattern on the pallet:

– 1st layer: 3–4 scrap pieces with rotation;

– 2nd layer: 3–4 scrap pieces with rotation;

– 3rd layer: 3–4 scrap pieces with rotation;

– 4th layer: 3–4 scrap pieces with rotation;

– 5th layer: 2–3 scrap pieces with rotation; … and so forth.

4.3.4. Semi-Automatic Mode

In semi-automatic mode, the system remains in standby until the operator presses the “START” button. Upon activation, the unloading cycle is executed according to the following sequence:

– Activation of the scrap conveyor drive shaft motor;

– Counting of scrap pieces entering the guide catchers;

– Deactivation of the scrap conveyor drive shaft motor upon reaching the preset count;

– Lowering of the pivoting frame;

– Standby for operator confirmation (pressing the “Continue” button on the operator panel) verifying that the platform extension path is clear;

– Raising of the lift-and-turn table;

– Extension of the retractable platform with subsequent scrap discharge;

– Lowering of the lift table;

– Rotation of the lift-and-turn table and retraction of the platform (if the “No Rotation” setting is selected, only platform retraction is executed);

– Raising of the frame.

Upon cycle completion, the system returns to standby for the next cycle.

– 6th layer: 2–3 scrap pieces without rotation; … and so forth.

4.3.5. Manual Mode

In manual mode, mechanism control is executed via push-buttons on the control panel.

The following safety interlocks are integrated to protect the mechanisms:

– Platform extension is inhibited unless the frame is lowered;

– Frame raising or lowering is inhibited unless the platform is retracted;

– Table lifting is inhibited above the upper limit switch level.

If a movement restricted by these interlocks is required for system maintenance, the “Manual Mode Without Limit Switches” can be utilized. In this mode, the controller bypasses signals from the limit switches. Access to this mode is available via the “Settings Menu” screen after password entry.
