About

Innovations in Marine Launch and Recovery Systems

Modern vessels demand high standards of safety and operational efficiency for deck equipment. The telescopic LARS combines operational convenience with advanced engineering solutions, optimizing launch and recovery processes on board. These systems deliver precise control and reduce operator workload, which is critical in harsh offshore environments.

Design and Functionality

The telescopic LARS features a retracting boom design for compact stowed positioning inside the hangar and extension outboard through the hatch cover. An optimized sheave arrangement and docking head ensure smooth, safe umbilical routing, as well as easy maintenance access without equipment disassembly.

Control and Safety

The system is operated via a wireless control unit, providing increased operational flexibility and safety. The LARS is equipped with redundant limit switches that automatically respond to overload or equipment contact, protecting both the system and the operator. These solutions minimize risks and enhance operational reliability.

Lighting and Signaling Elements

For operation in restricted visibility, the LARS features floodlights to illuminate the working area and a combined horn and siren for audible signaling. These components enable precise process monitoring and ensure safe, ergonomic working conditions, particularly during nighttime operations or in severe weather.

Materials and Equipment Protection

The LARS is constructed from marine-grade materials engineered to withstand severe offshore environments. Electrical equipment features a high ingress protection class, and the coating system is applied in accordance with customer specifications. These solutions ensure long-term durability and minimize maintenance requirements, maximizing operational uptime.

Manufacturer

The telescopic LARS is engineered and manufactured by Izhora Hydrosystems LLC. With over a decade of expertise in developing advanced marine launch and recovery systems and hydraulic equipment, the company integrates proven technologies and engineering solutions, combining innovation with field-proven reliability in every product.

4. Additional Requirements

  • All electrical equipment features IP 56 ingress protection.
  • All materials are engineered for operating temperature conditions (-30 ºC to +35 ºC).
  • Coating system: coating system specifications and RAL color code shall be subject to Customer approval.
  • Hydraulic system fluid: AUP grade spindle oil.
  • Hydraulic fluid cleanliness class: minimum class 12 in accordance with GOST 17216-71.
  • Type: hydraulically driven retracting telescopic LARS.
  • The LARS is mounted on the hangar deckhead (T-bar structural framing) and extends outboard through the hatch cover.
  • The LARS is equipped with a swivel sheave arrangement and a dedicated docking head for water sampler rosette operations, alongside a sheave arrangement for umbilical routing to the winch.
  • The LARS lowers to deck level to provide maintenance access to the umbilical sheave and docking head.
  • The sheave arrangement allows umbilical re-reeving without terminating or removing the umbilical connector.
  • LARS operations are controlled via a portable belly-box type wireless control unit.

The LARS is equipped with:

  • Redundant limit switches (automatic cut-out switches) that trip upon:
    a) LARS overload exceeding 10% of the rated SWL in calm water and at least 25% under sea state conditions;
    b) Docking head contact with the rosette (or other submerged equipment).
  • A combined horn and siren activated via the wireless control unit.
  • A floodlight providing water surface illumination within the LARS operational area.

The LARS is powered via the vessel hydraulic system at a rated pressure of 250 bar and a rated flow not exceeding 200 l/min.
